Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested two men, including a rowdy-sheeter, for allegedly consuming alcohol on a moving motorcycle, shouting in public and creating nuisance near Seegehalli Gate on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The incident occurred within the limits of the Madanayakanahalli Police Station on Friday night during a patrol operation conducted by the West Division Organised Crime Squad.
Police identified the accused as Harish (32), a rowdy-sheeter with multiple criminal cases registered against him, and Nithesh (27), who also has a criminal background linked to Annapoorneshwari Police Station.
Duo allegedly created fear among public
According to police officials, the two accused were travelling from Tavarekere towards Bengaluru on a two-wheeler when they were spotted behaving recklessly on the road.
Investigators said the pillion rider was openly consuming alcohol from a liquor bottle while the motorcycle was in motion. The duo was also allegedly shouting loudly, misbehaving in public and creating panic among commuters and pedestrians near Seegehalli Gate.
Police stated that their behaviour caused inconvenience and fear among members of the public travelling through the area during the night.
The West Division Organised Crime Squad, which was on patrol duty, intercepted the motorcycle and detained both men for questioning before placing them under arrest.
Rowdy-sheeter has 13 criminal cases
During verification, police found that Harish was listed as a rowdy-sheeter at the Madanayakanahalli Police Station and had around 13 criminal cases registered against him.
Officials further revealed that Harish had allegedly failed to appear before courts in connection with earlier criminal cases, following which several warrants had been issued against him.
Police said the accused had been evading legal proceedings for some time and was already under surveillance due to his criminal history.
Nithesh, the second accused, also reportedly has criminal records registered at Annapoorneshwari Police Station.
Authorities are now verifying the details of previous offences linked to both accused and whether they were involved in other recent disturbances in the area.
Police intensify checks on public nuisance
Police officials said the arrests were part of intensified night patrols and public nuisance checks being carried out across Bengaluru outskirts.
Senior officers stated that drunken riding, public disorder and reckless behaviour on roads continue to pose risks to commuters and public safety.
The police have been increasing surveillance in areas prone to anti-social activities, especially during weekends and late-night hours.
Officials warned that strict action would be taken against individuals found consuming alcohol in public places, endangering road users or violating law and order norms.
Separate cases registered
Police confirmed that two separate cases have been registered against the accused at the Madanayakanahalli Police Station.
The charges are likely to include public nuisance, drunken misconduct and other relevant provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act.
Further investigation is underway.
Rising concern over reckless behaviour
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over reckless behaviour and lawlessness on Bengaluru roads, particularly involving habitual offenders and rowdy-sheeters.
Police sources said regular patrols and surprise checks are being conducted to prevent criminal activities and improve public safety across the city and surrounding areas.
Authorities have appealed to the public to immediately report dangerous or suspicious behaviour on roads to the nearest police station or emergency helpline.
