Bengaluru: In a dramatic incident, a rowdy sheeter who tried to escape from police custody by attacking a head constable, was shot and immobilized.
Lokesh, 24, was absconding after the murder of Prashanth, a rival gangster. Prashanth was murdered on February 27, and Lokesh went underground ever since.
The police had received information that Lokesh and his gang members are in Tamil Nadu, and a team was formed to bring the murderers back to the city.
The police were successful in nabbing Lokesh on March 5. However, the rowdy sheeter in a bid to escape from custody attacked head constable Ravishankar and tried to flee.
Police inspector Girish shot in the air as a warning, which did not stop Lokesh from trying to escape. With no other option, the police inspector shot him in the leg.
Lokesh who is the prime accused in the murder of Prashanth is currently admitted to a hospital. Head constable Ravishankar has sustained head injuries and is also being treated in a hospital.
“Lokesh will be handed over to Banaswadi police for a probe in several cases pending against him,” said Abdul Ahad, DCP for Whitefield division.
