Bengaluru: RR Nagar police under whose jurisdiction journalist, activist Gauri Lankesh was assassinated is expected to face disciplinary action for poorly handling the initial hours after the murder. According to the sources in the state police department, Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by B K Singh sought a report from RR Nagar police in this regard.
It is said that the SIT officials were upset as all the clues at the murder site were destroyed with in few minutes after the news of murder broke mainly because the jurisdictional police didn’t stop the general public from entering the murder spot.
“First two hours were crucial. But police didn’t stop the people from entering the site. As a result minute details got destroyed. Now the SIT wants action against police for mismanagement,” sources said.
Meanwhile, even six days after the murder, the SIT is still struggling to collect credible information regarding the accused. According to the sources, all the CCTV footage of around 7 kilo meter radius of the crime scene has been checked by the SIT.
Journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead by miscreants on September 5 at her residence.
