Bengaluru: South Western Railway (Bengaluru) Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ashok Kumar Verma has informed that passengers will be fined if they are found using single-use plastics inside the station premises from October 2 onwards. “The fine amount will be Rs.1,000,” he stated.

Speaking to reporters, he said that this ban was applicable to only single-use plastics. “For water bottles, we have installed bottle crushing machines. A number of such machines will be installed with the help of companies through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach,” Verma said.

He also stated that this ban was applicable to all the railway stations in the city including Yeshwantpur, White Field, Cantonment, etc. “The people must unite to make railway stations plastic-free zones,” he said.
