Bengaluru: Moviegoers, who were happy after the State Budget announced a ceiling on the price of tickets in multiplexes, will have to wait longer. The ticket price for weekend shows in several multiplexes was much more than the proposed Rs 200 cap.

While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced implementation of uniform ticket price in all cinema theatres, including multiplexes in the State, the Government Order is yet be notified to implement the budgetary proposal, sources said. With the budget approved only on March 27, officials in the Department of Information and Public Relations said a proposal on cap on ticket prices will now have to be sent to the government.

“This will then have to get the go-ahead of the Law and Finance Departments after which the government will have to pass an order,” said the official. He, however, declined to give an approximate time frame for the process to be completed.

The budget also made it mandatory for multiplex theatres to screen Kannada and regional language films on at least one screen at prime time between 1.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.
