Bengaluru: A distressing incident occurred at the Sakrebyle Elephant Camp in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district. Miscreants attacked an 18-month pregnant elephant named Bhanumati, severing her tail. The attack took place while the elephant was left to graze on the camp’s premises after a bath in the Tunga river. An immediate hunt for the culprits has been launched.

The Attack and Discovery:

After her bath, the camp’s staff noticed blood on the ground and rushed to Bhanumati’s aid. To their horror, they discovered that her tail had been brutally cut off, presumably with a sharp-edged weapon. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Wildlife Division Prasanna Krishna Patagar, reported that the tail had been severed by half an inch. Fortunately, the severed part was successfully reattached, and the elephant received the necessary treatment. Bhanumati is now healthy and recovering well.

Investigation and Response:

DFO Prasanna Krishna Patagar has ordered an inquiry to identify the individuals responsible for this shocking act. The incident had occurred last week but came to light only recently. The Forest Department is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
