Bengaluru: Cops are often blamed for being rude, corrupt and beating up innocents. But these two beat police officers turned Good Samaritans and helped a 90-year-old woman find a home when the entire state was reeling under state-wide bandh call given by farmers and pro-Kannada associations against Supreme Court order to release Cauvery water to Tamilnadu.
Neelakanta Gowda and Mushtaq Alandkar, attached to the Hennur police station were on night beat, on the day of bandh on Friday morning. With protests in the city intensified, the normal life was hit and several people got stranded. Meanwhile, the two cops received a call from a good samaritan named Mark rego to inform about a 90-year-old woman who had lost her way home.

The woman Muniyamma had come near Rego’s house, with empty stomach, tired and shivering in cold. He took the old woman inside his house by the time the cops arrived. Appreciating the quick response from the Bengalur police, Rego took to social media and said, “The two policemen were extremely helpful and drove around the locality for over two hours, hoping that the elderly lady would find her way back, but to no avail. Around 4 am, we took her to the Hennur police station where an official report was filed. The policemen at the station were extremely polite and helpful. After completing the process around 5.30 am, the two constables made her sit in the Hoysala vehicle and took her to the ‘Home of Hope’, a shelter situated beyond Hennur.”

Rego who was touched by cops with their immediate help further said that the two policemen went beyond their call of duty and even helped the woman get a temporary shelter till someone came and claimed her. The policemen even emptied their wallets at the shelter’s donation box.

Deccan Chronicle quoted Rego saluting the two cops, “Around 7 am, the two policemen drove me back home and even stopped on the way to buy me a cup of tea and absolutely refused to let me pay for it. Take a bow gentlemen. True Cops with a heart! Bengaluru Police need more people like you.”
