Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said the state government has decided to establish Shaurya Academy at Sangolli of Bailahongal taluk in Belagavi district. Sangolli is the native of Kranti Veera Sangolli Rayanna.
“The academy is expected to function on the lines of National Defence Academy. The objective of the academy is to promote and propagate the valour and good qualities of Kranti Veera Sangolli Rayanna,’’ the chief minister said.
Presiding over a meeting at Krishna in Bengaluru, the chief minister had directed the government officials to take measures to acquire 100 acres of land for the proposed Shaurya Academy.
He said the state government would take all measures to develop the native of Sangolli Rayanna, the place where he was hanged to death by the British and the place where his mortal remains were buried. “All the works should be completed by this year end. The state government is ready to allocate funds for this purpose. The government has decided to develop Sangolli Rayanna’s Samadhi as a national memorial’’ he said.
He also directed the officials to take measures for the constitution of experts committee to prepare action plan for Kranti Veera Sangolli Rayanna Area Development Authority. “The experts committee will function from Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Belgavi,’’ he said.
It may be recalled the chief minister had made budgetary allocation of Rs 10 crore for the establishment of Kranti Veera Sangolli Rayanna Area Development Authority in 2015-16.
