Bengaluru: The Election Commission of India has appointed Additional Chief Secretary Sanjiv Kumar, a 1986 batch IAS officer, as the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka. He will take charge from Anil Kumar Jha ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for May next year.
A notification from the Election Commission of India said the commission, in consultation with the Karnataka government, has nominated Sanjiv Kumar under the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
The notification, dated November 9, also said Sanjiv Kumar would cease to hold charge of all or any charges of work under the Government of Karnataka before assuming the new office. He is currently in charge of the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood.
