A security incident occurred this morning at the ‘International Day of Democracy’ event in Bengaluru, where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was present. A 24-year-old man, later identified as Mahadeva from Talgatpura in Kanakpura, dashed towards the stage where Siddaramaiah was seated.

Mahadeva, an enthusiastic supporter of Siddaramaiah, was reportedly attempting to present him with a shawl, which he was holding as he climbed the stage. However, security personnel acted promptly and apprehended him before he could approach the Chief Minister.

The police have detained Mahadeva and are currently verifying his credentials. Siddaramaiah addressed the audience earlier, emphasizing his government’s commitment to fostering a thriving democratic and secular environment in Karnataka. “Despite our efforts, threats to these values persist. We must stay vigilant, united, and continue to nurture Karnataka as a peaceful community for all,” he remarked.

The event also featured the formation of a 2,500-km-long human chain, hailed by the Karnataka government as the “world’s longest.” This human chain, stretching across all 31 districts of the state, symbolized unity, equality, and fraternity. Siddaramaiah and senior ministers participated in the chain in front of the Vidhana Soudha.
