Bengaluru: Senior Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer Asha Parveen has been transferred from her post as Chief Administrative Officer of the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and appointed as the Administrative Officer of the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
The transfer comes within two months of her reportedly submitting a detailed report to the Karnataka government highlighting alleged administrative lapses, irregularities and corruption-related issues at the premier cancer hospital.
Transfer follows reports on alleged irregularities
According to reports, Asha Parveen had prepared and submitted documents based on her findings after assuming charge at Kidwai Hospital. The report allegedly highlighted issues related to hospital administration and suspected irregularities, which were forwarded to the state government for further action.
Her transfer has drawn attention as it comes soon after the submission of the report.
Officer had earlier flagged alleged corruption
This is not the first time Parveen has reported alleged irregularities during her tenure in public institutions.
She had earlier submitted documents relating to alleged corruption in the nephrology department of Victoria Hospital. Following those developments, she was also transferred from that assignment.
After being posted to Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, she reportedly continued examining administrative processes and alleged malpractices before submitting another detailed report supported by documentary evidence.
Justice D’Cunha panel report yet to be implemented
The developments have also renewed focus on the findings of the Justice John Michael D’Cunha Committee, which had conducted a detailed inquiry into the functioning of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology.
The committee reportedly submitted several recommendations to the Karnataka government aimed at improving governance and addressing systemic issues at the hospital. However, according to reports, those recommendations are yet to be implemented.
The Karnataka government has not officially stated whether Asha Parveen’s transfer is linked to the reports she submitted. No official response has been issued regarding the allegations mentioned in the reports.
