Bengaluru: Will ambitious scheme launched by the former chief minister Siddaramaiah in 2013 to help the poor Muslim families organise the marriages of their children rock the state coalition government? Well, sources say this may crumble the very foundation of the coalition government.
According to the sources, the then CM Siddaramaiah had reserved Rs. 125 crores for Shaadi Bhagya scheme in his budget presented in February 2018, but in the new budget CM HD Kumaraswamy has brought down this amount to Rs. 55 crores.
It is said that 33,592 applicants are yet to be disbursed with the Shaadi Bhgaya amount. “It is really a sad development. How come the state government cut the aid by half? This issue will be discussed with JDS leaders soon. We will not accept this cut,” said a senior Congress leader.
“Muslims supported the party in the 2018 general election extensively. We can’t neglect them,” he said.
