Bengaluru: The Congress government led by Siddaramaiah is all set to offer more freebies as it braces to face the Assembly election. As part of freebies, needy people in rural areas could expect sheep, goat and chicken ‘Bhagya’ soon.

Animal Husbandry Minister A Manju is preparing the draft plan to provide a pair of sheep, goat and a flock of chicken for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families as part of a welfare scheme from his department to boost the income of rural poor.

Presently state government has Pashu Bhagya scheme to provide a pair of cows for SC/ST community. “We want to come out with a similar scheme covering sheep, goat and chicken. The proposed scheme would cover all the BPL families irrespective of caste. The proposal would be submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who is holding pre-budget meetings to incorporate good suggestions in his next budget,” A Manju said here on Tuesday.

The state government is also providing some relief for dairy farmers by reducing the price of fodder being supplied through Karnataka Mild Federation(KMF). Orders have been issued for Rs2000 per ton reduction in fodder price, the ministaer said.

Replying to a question on huge stock of milk power in KMF godowns, Manju expressed the confidence of clearing the stocks by the end of February.

The KMF is also bracing up for a huge increase in milk production from the present 77 lakh litres per day to one crore litres per day, he said.
