Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday claimed that the city has been overlooked by the Centre and deprived of adequate financial support.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar stated, “I will tell him what is required for Bengaluru. We have not been given sufficient funds. Bengaluru has been neglected. I will urge PM Modi to treat this city like a national capital… BJP MPs and MLAs are only securing votes in the name of PM Modi or the party.”

The remarks came during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state. Modi inaugurated the Yellow Line of the Bangalore Metro Phase-2, a 19-km stretch from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra with 16 stations, built at a cost of ₹7,160 crore. With its launch, Bengaluru’s operational metro network expands to over 96 km, benefitting lakhs of commuters.

The Prime Minister also flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains from Bengaluru — connecting Bengaluru-Belagavi, Amritsar–Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Nagpur (Ajni)–Pune. These high-speed trains aim to boost connectivity, cut travel time, and offer a premium travel experience for passengers across multiple states.
