Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday outlined ambitious plans to reshape Bengaluru’s infrastructure, including multi-level parking facilities near court complexes to ease congestion.

Speaking at the Kempegowda Jayanti event organised by the Advocates’ Association Bengaluru (AAB), Shivakumar emphasised preserving Kempegowda’s legacy while elevating the city’s global stature. He credited four leaders for Bengaluru’s evolution: Kempegowda as its founder, Kengal Hanumanthaiah for building the Vidhana Soudha, Kuvempu for enriching Kannada literature, and SM Krishna for giving the city international prominence.

Highlighting the challenges of a population now exceeding 1.4 crore, he admitted that while ring roads have improved connectivity, critical junctions like KR Puram, Hebbal, Goraguntepalya, and Electronics City remain gridlocked.

To tackle these issues, Shivakumar announced an unprecedented ₹1 lakh crore infrastructure programme over the next five years. The plan includes constructing double-decker flyovers, 40 km of tunnel roads, and a 123-km elevated corridor to decongest major arteries.

Other measures will target the garbage mafia and improve waste management across the city.

Additionally, he pledged ₹5 crore to the AAB for better facilities and committed four to ten acres of land for new law institutions. He also promised support for a solar power plant at the City Civil Court and announced the upcoming Global Academy of Engineering in honour of his late father’s vision.
