Bengaluru: Following JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy’s accusations that the BJP-led state government of covering-up the Mangaluru police firing, BJP leaders hit back at the former chief minister.

At a press conference, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje lashed out at HDK and ridiculed him, calling him “jobless” and accused him of “instigating violence”.

It can be recalled that earlier today, HDL released 35 visuals and claimed that the government had twisted the entire incident. “The police crossed its limits and assaulted not just the protesters, but also the civilians. The evidence I have shows that the police had assaulted innocent people,” he had said, calling for the suspension of Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha.

He had also demanded that a House Committee probe be conducted into the violence that broke out in Mangaluru city on December 19, 2019.

Lashing out at the former CM for releasing videos of the Mangaluru violence, MP Shobha questioned HDK how he came across the videos and said, “H D Kumaraswamy is demoralising the police force with his statements.”

She then reiterated her previous allegations that the several people from the Popular Front of India from Kerala created “ruckus” in Mangaluru city. “The PFI was responsible for the violence in Mangaluru. The policemen who were present during the violence were not appointed when B S Yediyurappa was the Chief Minister,” she added.

Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi also lambasted HDK for releasing the videos and casting aspersions on the BJP.

“HDK has lost his mental balance. His party’s bleak future is compelling him to make illogical statements. Let him first understand the ground reality about the Mangaluru violence and then pass comments,” Savadi said, adding that it is unbecoming of a two-time CM to blame the police unnecessarily.
