Bengaluru: A 50-year-old home appliances shop owner was allegedly killed by his cousin at his shop in JP Nagar 7th Phase after a dispute over plans to open a separate business, according to a report by The New Indian Express.
The victim, identified as Raju Singh, was allegedly assaulted by his cousin Hari Singh, 41, at the shop on Tuesday evening. Hari was arrested by the police on Wednesday.
Raju, who had been living in Bengaluru for nearly three decades, suffered severe injuries to his head and face during the assault and died at the spot.
Dispute over opening a separate shop
According to the report, Hari had been working with Raju since 2006 and had been seeking his cousin’s assistance to open a separate shop.
Raju had reportedly asked for around a year to arrange the investment required for the new business. The delay allegedly led to disagreements between the cousins.
The two had reportedly been quarrelling for around three days before the incident.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the dispute and the events that led to the fatal assault.
Attack took place when Raju was alone
The incident reportedly occurred between 7.20 pm and 7.45 pm on Tuesday.
According to the report, Hari allegedly went to the shop when Raju was alone and picked up an argument with him. The argument allegedly escalated into a physical assault.
Raju was attacked on his head and face and suffered serious injuries. He died at the scene.
The incident took place at the home appliances shop in JP Nagar 7th Phase, where Raju was running his business.
Accused allegedly informed victim’s daughter
Following the assault, Hari allegedly informed Raju’s daughter about what had happened and then fled from the location.
When Raju’s daughter reached the shop, she reportedly found her father lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries to his head and face.
The police were subsequently alerted and began investigating the circumstances of the death.
Hari was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder, according to The New Indian Express.
Family dispute turns fatal
The incident has brought attention to a dispute that reportedly arose between two relatives who had also worked together for several years.
Hari had been working with Raju since 2006 and was allegedly seeking financial assistance from him to establish a separate business.
Raju’s request for additional time to arrange the investment reportedly became a source of tension between the two. The disagreement allegedly continued for several days before the fatal incident.
The police are expected to investigate the nature of the business arrangement, the discussions between the cousins and the circumstances immediately preceding the assault.
Police investigation underway
The arrest of Hari marks the next stage of the investigation into Raju’s death. Police will examine the circumstances at the shop, the sequence of events leading to the assault and the relationship between the two cousins.
The reported motive centres on the disagreement over financial assistance for Hari’s proposed separate shop. However, the precise circumstances and evidence in the case will be established through the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings.
Raju had reportedly spent nearly 30 years living in Bengaluru and was operating his home appliances business in JP Nagar.
