Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president B S Yeddyurappa on Sunday came down heavily on Siddaramaiah government for failing to live up to the expectations of the people in the state.
Addressing a mammoth gathering at the Other Backward Classes convention, Yeddyurappa blamed Congress and other Opposition parties for planning to observe Akrosh Diwas on Monday against the demonetization of high value currency notes in the country.
“Rs 18 lakh crore to Rs 20 lakh crore counterfeit currency was detected due to the demonetization of high value currency notes in the country. I think Congress and other Opposition parties are trying to safeguard their black money demanding rollback of demonetization. It seems they are not satisfied with the money looted in the last 60 years. Ninety percent of people in the country have supported demonetization process,’’ Yeddyurappa said.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been interested in the welfare of farmers, Yeddyurappa said that it was Narendra Modi who reduced the prices of fertilizers and announced 30 per cent subsidy for farmers to buy seeds. “We will find an amicable solution to Mahadayi and Cauvery water issues as soon as BJP comes to power in Karnataka,’’ Yeddyurappa said.
Criticising Siddaramaiah government for rampant corruption at all government departments, the BJP state president said earlier two to three-km road was being asphalted to ensure quality in the work but now 20 to 25 km length road is being asphalted per day. “How can you expect quality in developmental works. The PWD engineers are busy in looting the state exchequer by quoting 50 per cent extra rate than the actual cost of the work,’’ he said.
He also challenged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a debate on the funds allocated for the welfare of backward classes in the state. “I am ready for a debate with Siddaramaiah on this subject. Let him come out with the details on the funds spent during the last three-and-half years for the welfare of backward classes in the state,’’ he said.
On deteriorating law and order in the state, he said the incidence of crime has been increased during Siddaramaiah regime. “This government made Lokayukta defunct. Now, murders and robberies have become the norm of the day,’’ he said.
