Bengaluru/New Delhi: Amid growing tensions between the coalition partners of the state, former chief minister Siddaramaiah met with AICC president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Wednesday evening. He was accompanied by KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao.

According to sources with the Congress party, the three leaders discussed the recent political developments in Karnataka including the war of words between the JDS and Congress legislators and ministers. “RaGa advised both the leaders to work towards defusing the tension and ensuring the smooth sailing of the government at least till the end of the Lok Sabha elections,” the sources added.

“A coalition with the JDS will help the Congress win at least 13-14 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. So, the coalition is critical. This issue was discussed in the meeting,” said a Congress leader.

“RaGa also advised Siddaramaiah to rein in his supporters and ensure that they don’t make any anti-JDS statements,” he said.

Earlier, Siddaramaiah visited the residence of the late George Fernandes and paid his respects to the departed leader.
