Bangalore: Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar on Sunday said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K J George were directly responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function organised to celebrate the 64th birth anniversary of BJP leader V Somanna, he said about 60 cases of rapes had been reported in Bangalore, in the last six months.
Cases of rape have been on the rise due to the negligence of the State government, he added.
“Instead of taking stringent action against the culprits, both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister have been talking as if they have no responsibility,” he added.
Fast-track courts
He demanded that the government immediately set up fast-track courts for the trial of rape cases and ensure stringent punishment to the guilty.
Legal action should be initiated against the management of Vibgyor High, the school where a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the school staff, he added.
Asked about the State government’s recommendation to the Centre to cancel ICSE affiliation of the school, Ananth Kumar said he was not aware of the recommendation and that he would soon hold a meeting with the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani in this regard.
