Bengaluru: In a sensational twist to the Lankesh murder case, arrested Waghmore while disposing before the 19th ACMM on June 27 denied any involvement in the killing of the journalist much in contradiction to a confession made by him before the SIT.

Waghmare was later produced before III ACMM court where the case is being heard and remanded in judicial custody till July 11

While the SIT officials have termed this a normal practice by accused persons as they are aware that confessing to their crime before the court may lead to them getting sentenced easily.

Notably, Waghmare had not only confessed to shooting Gauri before the SIT but had also divulged information regarding the other persons on the target list of the gang. He had also cooperated with the officials to recreate the crime scene. But his denial now leaves SIT officials with the daunting task of collecting evidence to link Waghmare to the murder.

Meanwhile, another accused in the case KT Naveen Kumar alias Hotte Manja agreed to an undergo the narco-analysis test, after refusing initially to prove his innocence in the case.

Since the SIT case has been built based on the confessions and statements given by the accused it has hit a bottleneck at the moment.
