The Kodigehalli police in northeastern Bengaluru have successfully apprehended six members of the notorious Irani gang in connection with two major crimes: a chain snatching and a house theft, officials reported on Tuesday.

The suspects, identified as Ali Siraj (51), Sadiq (40), Rafiq (40), Abbas Ali (27), Abu Turab (55), Tabrej Ali (35), and Madhush (45), hail from various parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. According to the police, the gang would travel to Bengaluru to carry out criminal activities.

The case began with two incidents: a house theft on March 30, 2024, where gold ornaments and silver lamps worth significant amounts were stolen, and a chain snatching on November 11, where a gold chain was taken from a victim returning from a temple.

The breakthrough came on December 23, when police arrested a suspect in Kolar, who then confessed to his involvement in the chain-snatching case and provided details on the other gang members. This led to the arrests of the remaining suspects, two of whom were already in Tumakuru district jail for other crimes.

The arrests have allowed the police to solve 13 cases across Bengaluru and recover 450 grams of gold ornaments valued at Rs 28.5 lakh.
