For over a year, the BengaluruTraffic Police (BTP) has turned to drones as a cutting-edge solution to oversee and manage the city’s notorious traffic. These aerial tools have become an essential part of the department’s effort to ease congestion on the roads.

According to M N Anucheth, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), these unmanned aerial vehicles are playing a crucial role in optimizing the deployment of personnel across key intersections and traffic-prone zones. By offering real-time visuals from above, they help officials make faster and smarter decisions on the ground.

In addition to crowd and traffic monitoring, the drones are also contributing to training next-generation artificial intelligence systems. These systems are designed to analyze vehicle flow, detect road risks, and understand how pedestrians behave in various conditions. This data-driven approach is allowing BTP to predict and prevent bottlenecks more effectively than ever before.

DH’s Udhbavi Balakrishna took a closer look at the drone operations, visiting several hotspots across the city to witness this aerial traffic management first-hand. The visuals captured are not only used for live monitoring but also archived for future analysis and strategy planning.

This integration of technology is reshaping how the city deals with its growing traffic woes—bringing in efficiency, foresight, and smarter policing.
