Sudarshan Kamath, the founder of Smallest AI, has stirred up social media with a unique approach to hiring for a software engineer role in Bengaluru. In his announcement, Kamath revealed that applicants are not required to provide educational qualifications or resumes for the position, which offers an annual salary of ₹40 lakh and a five-day workweek. This opportunity is available for individuals with little to no experience, ranging from zero to two years. The role will be based in Indiranagar.
Kamath invited prospective candidates to introduce themselves with a brief 100-word text and links to their best work, sent to info@smallest.ai. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“We are seeking a skilled full-stack engineer at Smallest AI…”
The posted details included a base salary between ₹15-25 lakh, additional stock options worth ₹10-15 lakh, and an immediate joining date.
The term “cracked full-stack engineer” is often used informally to describe someone exceptional at both front-end and back-end development. The word “cracked” refers to being outstanding in terms of problem-solving, creativity, and efficiency.
While many applauded Kamath for emphasizing skills over traditional credentials, some questioned the adequacy of the salary for such a high-level engineer. One user noted, “Don’t call it ‘cracked’ if you can’t pay a cracked salary,” while another pointed out the high cost of living in Indiranagar, suggesting that the salary might not go far after basic expenses.
