Bengaluru: BJP National President Amit Shah has appointed senior BJP leader and Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda (DVS) as head of the Election Campaign Committee for the Assembly elections due next year in the state. The committee includes 28 prominent state BJP leaders from various regions of the state in an attempt to reach all eligible voters in the state.

The list of 28 BJP leaders which comprise the election campaign committee include, D V Sadananda Gowda, K S Eshwarappa, R Ashok, C M Udasi, Govinda Karajola, Shobha Karandlaje, Sriramulu, P C Mohan, G M Siddeshwar, B Somashekhar, Ayanur Manjunath, B J Puttaswamy, K B Shanappa, V Somanna, Abdul Azeem, Somanna Bevinamara, Jagadeesh Hiremani, M Jayadeva, Kumar Bangarappa, Renukacharya, Thejaswini Ramesh, Shruthi Jaggesh, Thammesh Gowda, Basavaraj Yankanchi, Ramesh Deshpande, Raghunath Malkapura and others.

Due representation is given to all regions while attempting to balance caste equations in the new committee. Many Yeddyurppa loyalists also find place in the committee. Most leaders in the committee belong to south and south interior Karnataka region. Due emphasis is given to Bengaluru city with only former police officer Abdul Azim figuring in the list from the minority community. BJP certain of getting Lingayat votes, has given large representation to other castes in an attempt to dent Congress vote bank. Despite parties harping on due representation for women in politics, only Shobha Karandlaje and Tejawsini Ramesh figure in the list.

DVS instrumental in BJP’s success in earlier elections in the company of present state party chief Yeddyurappa, will have a herculean task of steering the party to victory as campaign committee chief.

The only question that remains unanswered now is, will ever smiling DVS revive the fortunes of BJP in the state to bring back cheer to its party cadres?
