Smoking fine: KSRTC collects Rs 2.62 crores in past six years

Bengaluru: Recent data showed that the KSRTC collected Rs 2.62 crores in fines from people found smoking in the KSRTC bus premises in the last six years.

According to the KSRTC director (vigilance), P S Harsha, a total of 1.31 lakh passengers were penalised for violating the ‘no-smoking’ rules in bus stands across the state.

“Up to Rs 200 is imposed as fine on those who are found smoking in the bus terminus,” he said.

According to the KSRTC authorities, the highest amount was collected in the year 2014-15 with fines amounting to Rs 64.03 lakhs. In the year 2018-19, a total of Rs. 35.23 lakhs were collected as fine.

They also stated that the sale of all kinds of tobacco products in the KSTRC bus terminuses and premises has been banned.
