A man previously involved in a smuggling-related case has landed in further legal trouble after being accused of cheating, threatening, and allegedly sexually assaulting a woman customs officer in Bengaluru.
The accused, identified as Kripalani, has been booked by the police following a complaint filed at Halasuru Police Station.
Customs officer files complaint
According to reports, the complaint was lodged by D Antony, who is currently serving as a Customs Superintendent in Mangaluru.
Police said videos allegedly showing Kripalani creating a disturbance have also gone viral on social media platforms.
Dispute linked to earlier smuggling case
Officials stated that Antony had earlier caught Kripalani in a smuggling case involving alleged customs duty evasion. Following the case, a fine of approximately ₹8.5 lakh was reportedly imposed on the accused.
Police suspect the latest actions may have been driven by revenge over the penalty imposed in the earlier case.
Allegations of threats and harassment
According to the complaint, Kripalani allegedly targeted and harassed a woman customs officer connected to Antony’s office. Reports also claim that he threatened one of Antony’s female colleagues over the phone.
The complainant further alleged that the accused issued death threats targeting Antony and his family members.
Police have registered a case against Kripalani under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 308(4), 351(3), and 351(1).
Investigation under way
Authorities said further investigation is ongoing to verify all allegations and gather additional evidence in the case.
The incident has raised concerns over threats faced by government officials involved in enforcement and anti-smuggling operations.
