Bengaluru: An indefinite strike planned by the waste transport vehicle owners and contractors since June 12 afternoon in the state capital was called off after a dialogue with Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G Parameshwar on the same evening.
After discussion with the DCM, BBMP Cleanliness, Contractors’ and Lorry Owners’ Association General Secretary S N Balasubrahmanya said, “The pending amount of the vehicle owners should be paid within one week. As there is no PF, they should cooperate with us and stop debiting the amount from our account. We have also demanded the minister and officials to solve other problems of the employees.”
During the meeting, officials started giving an explanation that enough vehicles were not provided for cleanliness, there was no proper response to the works of BBMP, payment had been delayed due to election model code of conduct etc. It caused a heated discussion between the association members and officials.
However, in the end, both the parties agreed to solve the problems within a week. So, waste transportation vehicles will work as usual from today, Balasubrahmanyam said.
