Bengaluru: After changing the colour of the train into green, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is all set to green the metro structures using the eco-friendly “Vertical Garden” concept, a garden between every four pillars of the metro path.
Garden on 96 pillars
As per the plan, in Reach-3 and 3A, there are 357 polls and there would be 62 polls and in Reach-4, out of 192 polls, 34 polls will be used for the vertical garden. This would not only hide concrete structures but also restore some greenery in the concrete jungle. BMRCL clarified that it would issue contracts to the advertisement license holders to develop these gardens with the help of professionals.
No park-No advertisement
In the North-South corridor metro polls, along with advertisements, vertical gardens will be developed. It is specified in the advertisement tender documents related to the route that the contract holders will get six months’ time to install the gardens. If they don’t complete in the specified time period, their licences and contracts could be terminated, BMRCL said.
The expenses for the vertical garden design development and management will be provided through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.
