Spandana Gopal, a London-based design entrepreneur, initially aimed to open a Tiipoi store in India but struggled to find the right retail environment. Her vision changed in December last year when a friend introduced her to an unused school provision store. Upon visiting, Gopal instantly recognized it as the perfect venue for her brand.
Transformation and Concept Located on Gangadhar Chetty Road in Ulsoor, Bengaluru, the store previously sold student notebooks and other general items. Embracing this legacy, Gopal and her business partner, Malini Malik, expanded their concept beyond a single-brand retail outlet. They transformed the space into a multi-brand design store and mini gallery. This reimagined store now showcases Tiipoi alongside other brands like Casegoods, Claymen, Tosha Jagad, Material Immaterial, and Lovebirds—all founded by friends of Gopal.
Design and Reception In late May, Gopal and Malik revamped the store with an industrial-chic design featuring a square grid motif. The grey concrete and movable elements create a versatile backdrop for an array of crafted design objects, books, and stationery that Gopal describes as “elevated general items.”
The store’s opening weekend was a hit, attracting around 500 visitors to the 300-square-foot space. The enthusiastic reception, with visitors taking selfies and sharing their experience, indicates that Bengaluru’s latest design destination has quickly won the hearts of locals.
