Bengaluru: Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao has been issued a notice by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker’s office for entering the Legislative Assembly hall in uniform.

The joint session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council began on Monday, February 17, and Governor Vajubhai Vala, who addressed the joint session, was accompanied by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, state law and parliamentary affairs minister J C Madhu Swamy and speakers of both the Houses. As they were entering the hall, compol Bhaskar Rao, who was escorting the leaders from behind, also tried to enter the Assembly hall. However, the marshals immediately blocked the compol and others from entering the hall.

They shut the doors as soon as the Governor entered the hall.

The marshals told Bhaskar Rao that according to the rules of the House, police personnel are not allowed inside the Assembly hall in uniform.

Irked by this, several of the senior leaders urged that strict action be taken against the compol.

Based on this, the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker’s office issued a notice to the compol, warning him to avoid such mistakes in the future.

It can be recalled that when B S Yediyurappa was the Chief Minister in 2010, the then Bengaluru compol Shankar Bidari had also tried to enter the Assembly hall during the chaotic political condition. A similar situation arose at that time and former chief minister Siddaramaiah, who was the Opposition leader at that point in time, had demanded that strict action be taken against Bidari.
