A special train was arranged to transport stranded passengers from Nergundi Junction in Cuttack after the Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derailed on Sunday morning. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) swiftly organized relief measures to ensure their journey could continue.
ECoR confirmed that Accident Relief and Medical Relief Trains were immediately dispatched to the site. Stranded passengers received water, snacks, and food packets, while senior railway officials, including the GM and DRM of Khurda Road, rushed to oversee rescue efforts.
The derailment occurred at 11:54 AM, affecting 11 coaches of the train. One passenger lost his life, reportedly after jumping from the train during the accident. Eight others sustained injuries and were shifted to SCB Medical for treatment.
Authorities have assured a thorough investigation, with the police probing the cause of the fatality. Restoration work is underway to clear the tracks and resume normal services.
