State appoints representatives to Cauvery Water Management Authority

Bengaluru: Major Irrigation and Medical Education Minister D. K. Shivakumar said that state government has sent two names as representatives of the state to the Cauvery Water Management Board, Authority formed by the Union government.

Speaking to media persons after a meeting called by the CM here, DKS said that Water Resource Department General Secretary Rakesh Singh has been appointed as the representative of the state to the Cauvery Water Management Board and Water Resource Department General Secretary, Cauvery Corporation MD HL Prasanna will be the member. These appointments have been done to avoid more problems for the state, he said.

“The Union government issued gazetted notification by forming Cauvery Water Management Authority on June 1. It directed Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry to appoint their representatives. This is an injustice to the state. The authorities may conduct a meeting soon. So, the state has appointed its representatives. The government would call an all-party meeting soon. The opposition parties should cooperate. We don’t want a clash with anyone,” the Minister said.

All party MPs would gather in a meeting. A memorandum will be submitted to the Central government. Regarding the legal fight, a discussion will be conducted with opposition leaders and MPs. Moreover, a letter has been written to the Union government strongly defending its claims regarding the unscientific conditions of the Authority.
