Bengaluru: In a big relief to thousands of KSRTC and BMTC employees who are affected by the COVID 19, the state government has released Rs.426 crores towards payment of June and July salaries.
The BMTC and KSRTC revenue plunged to historical lows after March 24 due to the COVID 19 pandemic. A surge in the cases forced the KSRTC to operate limited services with less than 10 passengers per trip. Due to the revenue loss, both KSRTC and BMTC were not able to pay their June salary until now. The State government’s decision comes as a big relief for the employees.
Transport minister Lakshman Savadi informed that the state government has decided to bear the salary part of the employees till September. “In total, the state government will release Rs.961 crores to KSRTC and BMTC,” he said.
