Bengaluru: With the idea of reviving the rural economy, which has been hit by the Covid 19 lockdown, the state government announced releasing Rs 400 crores towards the construction of 1.02 lakh houses across the state.
This amount will be credited into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries within a week.
According to V Somanna, housing minister, the step has been taken to ensure that all the poor families have a house before the monsoon begins in the state.
The programme is in sync with the centre’s guidelines. “The cost of the house construction is equally shared by the state and central governments. Now the state government is releasing its share,” he said.
Somanna also stated that more focus will be given to mega housing projects to improve the economy.
“The Karnataka Housing Board has taken up the works of 46,000 multi storey apartments in Bengaluru as part of construction of one lakh houses in the city, which was announced by the previous government. Adding to this 30,000 sites will be developed near Jigani and distributed among the applicants,” he concluded.
