Bengaluru: The state government has decided to supply one liter of kerosene for LPG consumers in rural areas through fair price shops, according to Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader.Speaking with media persons here on Monday, Minister Khader said the Central Government, in the budget for the year 2016-17, had stopped supplying kerosene to ration card holders who availed LPG connections. “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has agreed to supply one liter of kerosene to the ration card holders with LPG connections in the rural areas since they need kerosene,’’ Minister Khader said.

The minister said the government would make arrangements to supply kerosene to the LPG consumers in rural areas from March. “The ration card holders have to submit application at the fair price shops seeking the supply of kerosene. The government will supply three liters of kerosene to those who do not have the LPG in rural areas,’’ the minister said.

Difficult to supply sugar

The minister said the state government finds it difficult to supply sugar at subsidized price to the ration card holders since the Central Government has not made any announcement on continuing the subsidy on sugar supplied to ration card holders. “There are one crore ration cards in the state. Around 10,000 metric tonnes of sugar is needed to supply to the ration card holders per month. I hope the Central Government to take a decision on continuing subsidy for the sugar supplied to ration card holders after the election results to the five states,’’ the minister said.

He said the ration card holders have to link their Aadhar cards with ration cards before June. “The state government had fixed March 31 as the deadline for linking Aadhar cards with ration cards. Now, the last date for linking Aadhar cards with ration cards has been extended to June 30 since the Central Government has allowed the linking Aadhar cards with ration cards till June 30. As of now, 3.45 crore Aadhar cards (members of ration cards) have been linked with ration cards. Fifty five lakh members of ration cards are yet to link their Aadhar cards with the ration cards,’’ he said.

Sangh Parivar ruins image of Karnataka

Minister Khader criticized Sangh Parivar outfits for indulging in violence during the visit of Kerala Chief Minister Pinrayi Vijayan’s visit to Mangaluru. “It is our responsibility to respect Chief Ministers of neighbouring states. Sangh Parivar activities have brought a bad name to Karnataka by indulging in violence during the visit of Kerala Chief Minister to Mangaluru,’’ he said.
