Bengaluru: In a bid to find a solution to the sand shortage across the state, including the Udupi district, the state government will unveil a new transparent sand policy next week. This new policy is expected to give more importance to the digitalization of permits and increased surveillance, creation of sand stockyards in all the taluks etc.
According to Deputy Chief Minister and head the cabinet sub-committee on the formation of the new sand mining policy Dr G Parameshwara, the new policy will be notified next week.
Dr G P also informed that presently, shortage of sand is being reported from many places and there is an urgent need to find a solution.
“The new policy will streamline sand mining and supply along with an increased royalty to the government,” he explained.
According to sources in the state mining department, this new policy is expected to be approved during the next state cabinet meeting.
