A four-year-old girl was seriously injured after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs near an indoor stadium in the CQAL Layout area of Sahakara Nagar on Sunday evening.
The victim, identified as Sangeetha, belongs to a family of construction workers from Yadgir. The incident occurred at around 4.30 pm when the child was walking on a road near the indoor stadium.
CCTV captures shocking attack
According to CCTV footage, a pack of six stray dogs suddenly surrounded and attacked the child. The dogs reportedly bit her multiple times, causing severe injuries to her hands, legs and face.
Hearing the girl’s cries for help, nearby residents rushed to the spot and managed to rescue her from the dogs. She was immediately taken for medical treatment.
Sources said the child has received anti-rabies treatment and is currently undergoing further medical care.
Residents blame civic authorities
The incident has triggered anger among local residents, who claimed they had repeatedly alerted civic authorities about the growing number of stray dogs in the area.
Residents alleged that despite several complaints, no effective action was taken to address the issue. Many said the presence of aggressive stray dogs has become a major threat, especially to children and elderly residents.
The attack has once again highlighted concerns over public safety in residential localities across the city.
Officials assure action
Following the incident, officials from the animal husbandry department of the Bengaluru North City Corporation visited the area, collected information and inspected the location.
Civic authorities have assured residents that appropriate measures will be taken to control the stray dog population and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The case has renewed calls for urgent and effective action to address Bengaluru’s growing stray dog menace while ensuring the safety of residents.
