Bengaluru: A mob in Bengaluru on Wednesday stripped and brutally thrashed two men accused of molesting a woman. The incident was reported in Hebbagodi near Electronics City on Wednesday.
The accused are Somanath (22) and Srikanth (24), both natives of Bidar who were residing at Maragindanahalli in Hebbagodi. They were working as housekeepers in a private company in Electronics City.
A senior police officer said that on Tuesday evening, Somanath, the victim’s neighbour, and his friend Srikanth barged into her house when she was alone and attempted to rape her. When she resisted, they attacked her with a log. The house owner, who heard her scream, rushed to her help, but the accused escaped.
The officer said, “Somanath, who had recently shifted out of the area, had left behind a table fan at the old house. The victim had taken the fan. Somanath learnt about this and picked a quarrel with her.”
A week ago, Srikanth had assaulted the woman’s brother when they had a quarrel over a mobile phone. Following this, the woman came to Srikanth’s house with her brother and picked a quarrel. She accused Srikanth of having stolen her brother’s phone. Humiliated in front of his neighbours, Srikanth spoke about this to Somanath and the two hatched a plan to get back at her. The men came to her house around 8.30 pm, when her husband had gone out. They locked the door from outside and broke open the asbestos sheet roof to gain entry. They then tried to rape her and attacked her.
The accused, who were in hiding through the night, returned to their houses in the morning. However, the residents who had learnt about the incident, were waiting for the duo to return. They tied the men to a tree and thrashed them before handing them over to police.
