Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar has said that there were few complaints regarding the transfer of officers illegally by the state government just few days before the declaration of elections, and the Election Commission would take suitable action.

He said that the guidelines of the Election Commission regarding transfers would be implemented strictly. If any orders were issued for transfer of an officer before the declaration of election code of conduct but yet to be implemented, then Election Commission’s permission is a must for the transfer. If there is any requirement of transfer in the administrative point of view, the government should convince the Election Commission first, he said.

After the declaration of election code of conduct, one cannot transfer Election Commission officers, revenue officers, police officers, deputy commissioners, he informed.

Law and order situation:

The Chief Electoral Officer informed that 42,815 non-bailable arrest warrants issued would be enforced immediately. Out of 92,867 licensed weapons, 31,227 have been surrendered. Around 15 illegal weapons have been seized. Under Section 107 CrPC, 29,030 cases will be withdrawn. Moreover, the Election Commission has decided to observe the casting of votes in 3000-6000 sensitive polling booths using webcasting.
