A lateral displacement detected in Tamil Nadu’s Hosur elevated highway has led to the suspension of all vehicular movement towards Bengaluru, authorities reported on Saturday. A lateral shift refers to the sideways movement of a road’s alignment, potentially affecting driving paths and structural stability.

The elevated stretch, which lies on the Bengaluru–Chennai National Highway, was promptly marked unsafe for travel by officials. As a precaution, access to the flyover has been entirely shut down to prevent mishaps.

The closure has triggered massive traffic congestion, with snarls stretching up to three kilometres near the Hosur bus terminal. Vehicles arriving from Salem and Chennai via Krishnagiri and intending to head towards Bengaluru are now being diverted to the adjacent service roads along the highway.

Authorities have announced that a specialist team will inspect the affected portion of the elevated expressway on Sunday to determine the cause of the structural anomaly and suggest remedial measures.

The flyover is a critical link connecting Silk Board Junction in Bengaluru to Electronics City, a major IT corridor. Built to ease the persistent congestion on Hosur Road, it plays a key role in maintaining traffic flow between Bengaluru and the industrial town of Hosur.

Until safety is assured, traffic will remain diverted, and commuters are advised to seek alternative routes.
