Benaluru: Scooter accidents are not uncommon on the busy roads of Bangalore, and here’s a recent one that claimed the life of a 21 year old college girl who was hit by a BMTC bus.

The incident occurred at 8.30 in the morning and the victim was identified as Kusumitha, who, as most readers would have guessed, was on her way to college, which makes it just another ordinary morning till the unfortunate incident occurred, and things changed for the worse.

She was pursuing her second year of engineering at a private college on Mysore road. The accident however, took place at Gayatri Nagar, near Malleshwaram.

While passers by hurriedly rushed the young woman to the nearest hospital, the driver of the bus, on knowing the consequences, fled the scene at the earliest.

Yet, there is little escape that he can expect, with passersby immediately informing the police at the Malleshwaram station about what they saw and all that happened.

Additionally, CCTV footage clearly shows all that had happened at the scene. The scene was clearly a chaotic one with a two wheeler moving past the bus from the left, coming too close to an autorickshaw. It was probably too late when she applied the brakes.

From this, we can hardly say that the fault was on the side of the driver. Moreover, CCTV footages reveal that the woman hadn’t come under the wheels of the bus, but had rather, fallen on the footpath, with her helmet falling off.

It was probably the injuries from this fall that led to the fatal end. All this clearly explains why parents today do not heed to the demands of their college children for a new scooter.

The incident also serves as another reminder to warn students of how their academics and college deadlines are not as important as their safety, as a lot of them tend to forget this when buried in a world of academic pursuits today.
