Bengaluru: Students of the Dr BR Ambdekar School of Economics (BASE) boycotted their classes, Thursday, alleging government negligence.
The BASE management suspended four students for holding a protest. Many of the students had left MBBS, BE seats to join the Dr BR Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE) which was started in the premises of the Bangalore University (BU) on the promise that it will turn out to be the Indian version of the London School of Economics (LSE) as assured by the government.
When the school was inaugurated by the former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh the students were on cloud nine. But within two years from the inauguration of the new institute, students launched an indefinite protest alleging that this institute has now been converted into a mediocre institute without any facilities.
According to the students, even two years after the start of the institute no permanent faculty has been appointed. Instead of developing the institute as an independent body now efforts are done to bring the school under the ambit of Bangalore University. “After the coalition government came to power, the institute has been sidelined”, allege students.
According to the students, the institute is run by the bureaucrats who are not familiar with the functioning of any internationally recognized institute.
