Bengaluru: The recently developed Suraksha panic app, by the city police aimed to ensure quick response for women in distress and make Bengaluru city more women-friendly has received good response from the womenfolk.

However on the flip side in many instances, women are pressing the panic button by mistake thereby wasting the time and energy of the city police.

According to the sources in the city police department, in last six months, more than 46,000 people have downloaded this app. Out of the 1,886 cases registered based on the alert issued via the app 408 were serious offenses.

Around 34,961 people have downloaded this app in their Android phones while 11,637 have downloaded it in their iPhones. Highest number of cases( 538) were lodged in the month of July.

But many insiders feel that majority of the alerts they receive via app is alert sent by mistake.

“Every day tens of users are sending false alerts by pressing the red button by mistake. Identifying real and false alerts has become a headache for the control room staff,” informed an officer.
