Amid continuous heavy rain and flooding in Udupi district, Tahsildar Pratibha R visited a flood-affected household in Advekodi, Yermal village, Kaup taluk, and promised urgent relief measures.
The family of Taranath, residing in a low-lying area, has been navigating chest-deep water daily for essential needs. His children, Prajna and Prajwal, are compelled to walk through floodwaters with schoolbags to attend college. Prajna shared, “We often reach class in damp clothes. It’s tough to keep our books dry and carry groceries.”
Touched by their struggles, Tahsildar Pratibha R personally entered the water, trekked to their submerged home, and assured quick intervention. “It’s distressing to see students wade through water to reach college in this era. The issue stems from a blockage in the Kamini River due to silt build-up. I’ve directed officials to clear the obstruction immediately,” she said.
The Kamini River, which flows from Padubidri to the sea, has slowed due to silt, causing severe waterlogging in Advekodi’s fields and homes. The Minor Irrigation Department has been tasked with desilting the river at the earliest.
The taluk administration has mobilized resources, including boats, trained swimmers, and a 24/7 control room (0820-2551444), to manage ongoing flood emergencies. Officials assured that preventive and rescue measures are fully in place.
