Bengaluru: A specially trained team of 31 female police officers has been constituted to monitor crimes against women and children and to create awareness, said Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant announced on Saturday September 25.
In a tweet he said, “the team, called ‘Rani Chennamma Pade’, is “by women, for women, of women”. He explained that the team will also provide training to women in basic self-defense techniques.
“Deputy Commissioner of Police – South East Division, Bengaluru, Joshi Srinath Mahadev, IPS is the first one to take the lead,” he said.
He further explained the aims and objectives of the team and said that they were created for educating and training women about basic self-defense techniques, creating legal awareness about women & child-related laws – POCSO, NDPS Act, and so on, to spread awareness about the usage of social media and trending cybercrimes, to conduct family and personnel counselling and to sensitise the public about the treatment of women & children, especially auto, cab, and bus drivers.
