Bengaluru: The body of a techie, Sachin Machaiah (30), who was feared to have drowned in the Kalkere Lake on Saturday, February 8, was found on Sunday, February 9 noon.
After a 21-hour-long search by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and a team of firefighters, Sachin’s body was recovered from the lake. The body was immediately moved to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital for a post mortem.
It can be recalled that on Friday, February 7, Sachin, a resident of Virajpet town in the Kodagu district and working in a company in Bengaluru, had met his friend Ullas after a long time. The duo decided to enjoy the moment and party. As per reports the two worked together in the same company before.
Reportedly, the two partied from Friday night till Saturday morning and later, decided to go to Kalkere Lake. Both had decided to go for a coracle ride. At this point in time, the oars slipped and sank into the lake, forcing them to manoeuver the coracle with their hands. Unfortunately, the coracle turned turtle and the two began to drown.
Ullas swam and reached the shore, however, Sachin was not so lucky.
Sachin was feared drowned in the lake, which had made Ullas worried. He immediately called Sachin’s brother and informed him about the incident.
As the Ramamurthy Nagar Police were informed about the incident, they rushed to the spot on Saturday morning, along with a team of firefighters and the NDRF. But the search attempts, which went on till Saturday night, did not pay off.
The NDRF and firefighters once again launched a joint search operation today, during which, they found Sachin’s body.
According to sources, Sachin knew how to swim, but could not manage to do so as he was afraid of drowning.
