Bengaluru: The cyber crime and City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested a 31-year-old software engineer working for a taxi aggregator on charges of unauthorised use of Aadhaar data for developing a mobile application.
The police have identified the arrested person as Abhinava Srivastav, is a graduate of IIT-Kharagpur. He is a resident of Golden Grand Apartments, Yesavanthapura. He hails from Babupurva, New Colony, Kidwai nagar, Kanpur City, Uttar Pradesh.
The police said the accused had developed a mobile application ‘’Aadhar e-KYC verification” that provides Aadhar data verification by unauthorizedly and illegally accessing UIDAI server.
He had allegedly illegally accessed data from a e-hospital server to develop the app in January, which has been downloaded by 50,000 people so far and he earned Rs 40,000 from advertisements. After a complaint was filed the Deputy Director of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the accused went underground, but was finally nabbed by the police in Koramanagala area on August 1.
According to the police, the accused had developed five apps. The cyber crime unit is verifying to ascertain whether he was involved in similar crime earlier.
