A 19-year-old BCom student biker, Shreyas Patil, lost his life after a fatal accident on the Richmond Circle flyover in Bengaluru during the early hours of Thursday. The mishap occurred around 3:45 a.m. while he was riding his motorcycle with a friend, K Chethan, riding pillion.

Shreyas, a resident of Vishwapriyanagar near Begur Road, reportedly lost control while descending the flyover ramp towards Residency Road. The motorcycle struck the retaining wall near the Bangalore Club side, causing both riders to be flung off the flyover — a drop of approximately 25 feet — onto the road below. The bike itself remained on the flyover.

Both young men sustained critical injuries and were rushed to St John’s Hospital. Shreyas, who suffered severe head trauma, was declared brought dead. Chethan, a resident of Akshaynagar, suffered fractures and remains hospitalized.

Shreyas’ father, Shivananda Patil, who was on a night shift at work, said he didn’t know when his son left home. Police suspect the duo may have been returning from a friend’s house, but their destination remains unclear.

Authorities are awaiting Chethan’s recovery to record his statement, which may shed more light on the sequence of events.

The accident has raised concerns about night-time road safety and the risk of flyover descents for two-wheelers in the city.
