Teenager Dies from Head Injuries After Wooden Pole Falls on Her in Bengaluru
A tragic incident occurred in VV Puram, Bengaluru, on Saturday when a 15-year-old girl, Tejeswini, succumbed to severe head injuries after a wooden pole fell on her while she was walking home from school. The accident took place near the National College metro station on National High School Road.
Tejeswini, a Class 10 student at Vasavi Vidya Niketan and a resident of KG Nagar, was walking when a wooden pole, supporting scaffolding from an under-construction building, detached and struck her. Passers-by rushed her to Victoria Hospital, but she was later transferred to NIMHANS. Sadly, she passed away from her injuries later that day.
Her family has held the building’s owner and engineer responsible for the accident, accusing them of negligence regarding safety measures at the construction site. “This is a busy area, and many people, including children, pass by here regularly. It could have been avoided,” said Parvathy, Tejeswini’s aunt.
The police have cordoned off the area and instructed construction workers to implement additional safety measures, including the installation of a safety net around the building to protect pedestrians. VV Puram police are awaiting a formal complaint from the family before further investigation.
In a similar incident, four children were injured when the plaster ceiling of an anganwadi building collapsed in Karnataka’s Kolar district. The children, Likhita, Parinitha, Sanvi, and Charitha, were immediately hospitalized. Karnataka’s Child Development Officer assured that swift action would be taken to ensure safety at anganwadi buildings.
